our journey.
We are a mother and daughter duo who love plants, and who are dedicated to discovering new and organic ways to best nurture and grow one of God’s greatest gifts to the earth.
Jodianne Beckford is the founder of Noire Girls Plant, she created this platform as a form of personal healing, which then grew into a beautiful community of fellow plant lovers that also sought plants for their mental health. As someone that dealt with long-time depression and anxiety, Jodianne knew she needed a change. The need to truly feel again.
After hitting what seemed to be rock bottom, and being at her lowest grounds, that’s when she discovered a liking for plants. Ironically, it is from the ground that plants grow, where she learned to love plants and planting, but ultimately herself again.
Never would Jodianne have thought in a million years that she would become a plant mom, or as she now likes to refer to herself, a botanical concierge. Plants have unpredictably become her peace, and she owes that to her mom. Her mother Carmen, also called Tattie, a nickname given to her from the upbringings of Jamaica, instilled qualities in her from a very young age. Growing up, she watched her mom with plants, and how she exercised great diligence and care for them.
Though she feels like her relationship with plants has just begun, it would appear that she’s been surrounded by them her whole life. Giving a helping hand to her mother and taking care of the garden, nature has rekindled her sense of feel. Noire Girls Plant isn’t just about plants, it’s a way of living. It’s a reminder that growth is a process. Despite the season you’re in, consistency, grace, and patience are the three main ingredients required to blossom. Caring for plants have been a great teacher to her. Jodianne has grown, feels amazing, and a sense of belonging has remerged.
Our mission is to create a community of growers, in aspects such as health, prosperity and nature. It is vital that we continue to uplift and be kind to one another. We want to help this process by providing resources that cater to healing and maintaining our mental health through the caretaking of plants. Together we can foster our relationships with nature, ourselves, and each other.
